Your team structure follows your architecture

If a routine product change needs engineering, operations, data, and support to renegotiate ownership every time, the architecture likely has the same boundary problem the teams do. Work is not slow because people are uncooperative. It is slow because the system does not make responsibility clear.

This is why many reorgs disappoint. They change reporting relationships but leave dependencies, domain overlap, and escalation ambiguity intact.

Good boundaries do not isolate teams from one another. They make collaboration cleaner. Teams know what they own, where their interfaces begin and end, and which decisions they can make without performing cross-functional diplomacy every day.

That definition work improves both execution and morale because fewer issues require negotiation simply to get work moving.

If responsibilities are being redrawn, redraw the system map at the same time. Decide which domains deserve dedicated ownership, which shared services need clearer contracts, and which decisions leadership should stop having to referee.

The objective is not maximum decentralization. It is fewer avoidable collisions and more confident autonomous execution.

A healthy organization makes it easier to predict where a decision belongs. A healthy architecture makes it easier to implement that decision without touching five unrelated systems. When those two conditions reinforce each other, the company feels meaningfully more coherent.
